The UPS driver was not injured.

Some Yavapai County non-profit organizations are getting financial help for area youth, families and seniors.

Three thousand dollars has been awarded to Catholic Charities for the Loft Drop-In Center. This facility provides homeless families a place to cook meals, do laundry and enjoy other comforts of home. Twenty-five hundred dollars has been awarded to Gabriel’s Angels to help pay for recruitment, training and placement of new pet therapy teams. Cornucopia Community Advocates, Prescott Area Shelter Services and Yavapai CASA for Kids have each received 2 thousand dollars. Make-a-Wish Arizona has received 1 thousand dollars to help pay costs for granting wishes for area children facing life-threatening medical conditions. The grants come from Unisource Energy Services, which provides natural gas in Yavapai County and Northern Arizona.

A Cottonwood man is dead following a vehicle accident on Highway 89A.

A man told Cottonwood Police officers he saw the accident that involved a pickup truck and a UPS semi-truck trailer last Friday afternoon. Commander Gary Eisenga says the UPS driver wasn’t hurt, and Cottonwood Police have an idea what caused the accident. The driver of the UPS truck told officers he saw the pick-up heading towards him. He tried to speed up to avoid the crash but the pickup struck the back end of the trailer, causing minor damage. The 78 year old victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
