Orme Fire, East of Dewey: Update: July 4, 2019 @ 1900

PRESCOTT, AZ – July 4, 2019 - Firefighters have slowed forward progression of the 1200 acre Orme Fire located approximately 6 miles south and east of Dewey, AZ on the Verde Ranger District. As winds pushed the fire north and east, firefighters used burnout operations on the north east corner of the fire to help slow progression. Burn out operations use fire along control lines to help reduce fuels along or ahead of the fire. This decreases the opportunity for uncontrolled fire to burn through the area.

Cooler evening temperatures along with higher humidity will allow firefighters to focus on building containment lines along the perimeter and start to mop-up the interior of the fire tonight. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.

The fire has not damaged any structures on the ranch; with the help of crews and a helicopter.

Orme Road south of Highway 169 remains closed to the public.

Resources assigned to the Orme Fire include 2 - Hotshot Crews, 1 - Type 2 Crew, 1 – Type 3 Helicopter, 2 – Heavy Airtankers, 2 – VLAT Airtankers, and multiple Engines.
