Justice Brutinel, formerly from Prescott, will be the next Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court.

PHOENIX – Robert M. Brutinel, currently the Vice-Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, has been elected by his colleagues to serve as Chief Justice next year after Chief Justice Scott Bales ends his term on June 30, 2019. Under Arizona’s Constitution, Chief Justices are elected by the justices and serve a five-year term. The justices also elected Ann A. Scott Timmer to serve as Vice Chief Justice effective July 1, 2019.

Chief Justice Bales commented that Justices Brutinel and Timmer have extensive experience as judges on both the Supreme Court and, respectively, the Yavapai County Superior Court and the Arizona Court of Appeals. “They will be outstanding leaders as our courts continue to work to advance justice for all Arizonans,” he said.

Vice Chief Justice Brutinel is now working with others throughout the state to complete the judiciary’s strategic agenda for 2019-2024.
