Embry-Riddle’s Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium Celebrates 10,000 Visitors

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus welcomed its 10,000thvisitor in April, just six months after opening its doors to the Embry-Riddle campus and the Prescott community.

Free planetarium shows, interactive learning events for local K-12 students and a variety of lectures have been provided for the community, thanks to the new facility. The planetarium has also supported private shows and events for community businesses and organizations, while also serving Embry-Riddle students, staff and faculty.

Highlights of the first six months include the in-house creation and production of three unique shows: The Prescott Winter Night Sky, Romance Among the Stars and The Prescott Spring Night Sky. Future events will include additional seasonal night sky shows, as well as possible documentaries and a lecture series.

“The enthusiasm and outpouring of support from members of the campus and the Prescott community has been beyond our wildest dreams,” said Eric Edelman, Planetarium Director. “Our list of collaborators and connections continues to grow, building the Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium into something that is very exciting and uniquely Prescott.”

The 116-seat facility is Northern Arizona’s only planetarium and has been getting rave reviews by visitors.

“What a lovely venue. A wonderful place to learn more, and be reminded of how small we really are. It was awesome,” said visitor E. Alan Normandy.

“The ‘speaker’ had a very engaging voice, and the music was very fitting to the show! We will definitely be returning often. Thank you for bringing such a facility to our area,” said visitor Cindy Dillingham.

“If you haven't visited us yet, we hope to see you soon,” added Edelman.
