Roughrider Baseball: It's a Sweep! Featured

The Roughriders sweep a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

The Roughrider baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Roughrider Park over the WolfPack from Thompson Rivers University, 3-1 and 4-3. YC improves their overall record to 6-9. Thompson. Rivers falls to 2-7 on their Arizona swing.

In Game One, both teams were strong on the mound. Roughrider’s pitchers allowed just five hits to the WolfPack.

Thompson Rivers got on the board in the first inning when stating pitcher Jesus Aldaz's wild pitch allowed one run to score.

YC knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Alex Isola's sac fly scored one run for the Roughriders.

The Green and Gold pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Jesus Pulido doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Aldaz earned the win for the Roughriders. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five. Dominic Hamel threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Hamel recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Yavapai .

YC racked up nine hits in the game. Pulido, Roberto Cabrera, and Elighah Lewis all had multiple hits for Yavapai College Roughriders.

In Game Two, Yavapai stole the lead late in the game. The game was tied at three with the Roughriders batting in the bottom of the sixth. Yavapai’s Gunnar Bundrick stole home for the go ahead score.

YC captured the lead in the second inning on Cabrera’s run scoring single.

In the top of the fifth inning, Thompson Rivers University tied things up at three.

Michael Cartwright led things off on the hill for Yavapai College Roughriders. He allowed five hits and one run over three innings, striking out four.

The Roughriders totaled eight hits in the game. Cabrera and Cody Holtz each racked up multiple hits for the Yavapai College Roughriders.

Yavapai resumes ACCAC action on Saturday at Central Arizona College. The twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
