Who's At the Inauguration? Featured

By Lynne LaMaster January 20, 2017 728

Most of the Arizona delegation will be attending the Presidential Inauguration this morning.

Arizona Senators and Representatives will be in Washington, DC to attend the Presidential Inauguration. All except Representatives Raul Grijalva of Tucson and Ruben Gallego of Phoenix, who announced plans earlier this week to forgo the ceremony, joining more than 60 other Democrats from the Legislature.

Representative Kyrsten Sinema, D-Phoenix, said she will be there, however, stating that she believes it is her job and a duty as a member of Congress.

Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake will also be there, despite testy relations during the election season with the new President Donald Trump. Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will also be in attendance.

Members of the Arizona Guard will be there to help prepare meals for soldiers and other Guardsmen that are providing security for the event. The meals aren’t fancy affairs, however, they’re known as Unitized Group Rations, a step up from MREs. Basically frozen TV dinners, they are frozen into blocks and then immersed in hot water before being served buffet style.

You won’t see Prescott Mayor Harry Oberg at City Hall this week. He also is at the Inauguration.

The State Society of Arizona hosted a ball on Thursday for most of Arizona’s congressional delegation and “500 of our closest friends,” reported Cronkite News

For regular citizens, it is not a cheap trip. One-star hotels can cost as much as $1000 for the weekend - if you can find a room. Add in transportation and other costs, and it is a costly affair. Tickets weren’t easy to come by, either. The Congressional delegation had limited numbers to offer to those interested in making the trip.
