City of Cottonwood Code Enforcement Asks, “Do You Know?”

So you or someone you know has a junk automobile in the Yard?  Here’s some important information about having junk automobiles on your property.

First, what is a junk automobile? According to the City of Cottonwood’s Zoning Ordinance 404.L1B, a junk automobile is, “A vehicle which is incapable of movement on its own power or does not have a valid or current State of Arizona registration.  “You might be asking yourself, can I store a junk automobile in my yard?  Surprisingly, yes! In section 404L.3, “No more than 2 junk automobiles shall be stored between the rear of the main structure and the rear lot line and shall not be visible from any public street”.  Also, City Parking Ordinance 10.28.10 states that it is unlawful to abandon a vehicle on any city street, highway, public right of way, alleyway, private road, or property owned or leased by the city. It can be towed away at the vehicle owner’s expense.

If you see a violation or have any questions feel free to call Cottonwood Community Development Department at 928-634-5505 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or you can make a report to the Cottonwood Police Department at 928-649-1397 any time.
