Yavapai County Fair - Fun for the Entire Family Featured

Today is the last day of the Yavapai County Fair.

It’s always fun to go to an amusement park. But what sets the Yavapai County Fair apart from the general amusement park concept is that there’s something for the entire family to do and see. Kids can moo at the cows and pet the inquisitive goats. Roosters crow about 2 inches from your face and geese honk. Grandmas enter some of their best cooking to be judged. Moms and Dads can display their photos. Kids can twirl around on carnival rides to their hearts’ content (for a price!) and young men can try to win that giant stuffed animal for their gal.

And the food. Goodness gracious! They’re selling curly fries deep-fried into the shape and size of a concrete brick. Add some melted cheese and chili and you’re in cardiac heaven. They have bbq’d turkey legs the size of your forearm. And lemonade made fresh cup by cup. Want something exotic? You can even buy frog legs or shark bites on a skewer.

But all of that is practically insignificant when it comes to Family Fun Night. Yep, that’s when you get to race with one shoe on - the idea is that your other shoe is at the opposite end of the arena and you have to run to it, put it on and race back. (Good luck getting those socks clean, Mom!) Or, better yet, you can pit your skills against a greased pig that doesn’t really want to be caught. (Please note, no pigs were hurt during this event.)

Today, (Sunday) is the last day of the 2017 Yavapai County Fair. There’s still plenty of family fun for all - including a Talent Show (10AM-4PM) with a prize of $500 going to the best of the best. The carnival rides will be spinning, the food will be cooking, there will be goats to pet - plenty of fun left for all.

In the meantime, in case you missed the boot race or the greased pig race, here are some photos from yesterday at the Fair:
