Bill's Newscast: CAFMA Minimizes Fire Damage

Fire damage minimized in Chino Valley.

County Attorney Hastings on special duty?

A former Yavapai County Attorney could be coming back to work. According to County Attorney Sheila Polk, Charles Hastings was elected Attorney in 1981 and he served in that position until he retired in 2000. In 2001, Hastings returned to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office as a seasonal employee, and he served in that capacity until July of last year. He started an extended leave at that time, but was unfortunately removed as an employee from the county payroll system. It’s being requested that exceptions be made to the County’s posting, recruitment and background check policies to allow Hastings to be returned to his seasonal position. The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors will consider the waiver during its meeting at 9 tomorrow morning at the Verde Valley Complex, located on South 6th Street in Cottonwood.

Fire damage kept to minimum

Fire damage has been kept to a minimum, thanks to Central Arizona firefighters. Fire Marshal Rick Chase explains the incident started yesterday afternoon. Chase says firefighters kept the blaze from spreading.

This incident follows one on Friday, where Central Arizona and Prescott crews responded to a possible structure fire on Carla Vista Drive in Prescott Valley. A neighbor had called 911 after seeing smoke coming from the residence. The first engine company found the home filled with smoke from burned food on the stove. No one was home at the time.

DH and zoning

The Dewey-Humboldt Town Council met at 6:30 tonight to consider giving direction regarding zoning issues. During its meeting 2 weeks ago, the Dewey-Humboldt Planning and Zoning Commission had developed a strategy to address these issues. They are recommending Council direct them to work with staff to develop a zoning map amendment proposal for each of the 3 identified problem areas. The Commission is also recommending they invite all property owners impacted by the rezoning proposal to meet with them at an upcoming meeting to discuss the proposed amendments. Town officials have found areas with zoning district boundaries that appear to totally disregard property lines for no apparent reason.

These boundaries split parcels, creating problems for development. The Planning Department has received a number of calls from area property owners seeking clarification of their development potential. The Dewey-Humboldt Town Council meeting will be held at Town Hall on Highway 69.
