STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Representative Maria Syms (R-28) has introduced a set of bills designed to give military personnel credit for education, training, and experience that they received during their service.
HB 2270 would build on legislation successfully championed by Senator Steve Smith last year (SB 1267) by directing vocational schools licensed through the state to develop policies to award academic credit based on skills, knowledge, and competencies gained during active duty military service.
HB 2271 would direct state occupational licensing boards to allow comparable military service to satisfy license requirements. The bill also requires licensing boards to work with the Department of Veterans' Services to access information on an applicant's education, training, and experience in the military.
“Arizona’s veterans and active duty military personnel have selflessly defended our safety and freedom, and we must stand with them as they transition to the civilian workforce,” said Representative Syms. “We need to value their service by giving them due credit for the knowledge and skills they’ve already acquired while in service to our nation.”
