On October 20th, 2016 the Prescott Police Department began an investigation into a domestic violence incident which had occurred in the 500 block of South Montezuma Street. Detectives learned that 67 year old John Stamm of Prescott had been involved in an argument with his wife and during the argument had fired a gun several times in her direction. Stamm had been receiving treatment in a Phoenix area hospital for self-inflicted injuries he sustained that evening. However, detectives did obtain a warrant for his arrest and on November 22, 2016 he was arrested by the Phoenix Police Department on the warrant. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail for domestic violence charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm and criminal damage. Extradition will be coordinated with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office.

Prescott Man Hospitalized After Domestic Violence Incident
On October 20th, 2016 at approximately 5:25 P.M. Prescott Police Officers responded to the 500 block of South Montezuma Street, regarding a domestic altercation in progress. The female occupant at the home had called 9-1-1 to report her husband had returned to the residence after a previous argument and had entered the home by kicking in the door. The female victim reported that her husband, a 67 year old Prescott man had shot at her twice as she was fleeing the home. The woman was not struck and suffered no injuries as a result.
Officers attempted to contact the man and shortly after their arrival at the home, they heard a gunshot from inside the home. A short time later, the male subject emerged from the home suffering from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was treated on scene and taken to YRMC West for further evaluation. Later that night he was transferred to a Phoenix area hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives will be continuing to examine physical evidence and attempting to speak to all parties involved. Detectives will work with the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office to determine the nature and timing of any potential charges.
