Two Scottsdale Men Uninjured in Aircraft Collision Featured

Aircraft collision in Verde Valley

On November 3, 2018, around 6 PM, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a reported small plane crash on the Red Creek Airstrip along the Verde River. This landing strip is located several miles north of Sheep’s Bridge in a very remote area of south east Yavapai County. Ground access requires off road vehicles.  Fortunately, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) personnel were actively training with their helicopter in the area, responded, and eventually located the pilot and his passenger, both uninjured. They were rescued by MCSO around 6:30 PM and flown to Scottsdale Airport. The plane had flipped over at the end of a dirt runway.

The 46-year-old pilot and his 24-year-old passenger are both men from the community of Scottsdale.

The next day, YCSO’s Rescue 1 helicopter flew to the site to survey the scene and submitted the attached photo. The FAA indicates the plane was a single-engine AVIAT A-1C-200. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

Citizens can contact the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office with information or questions at 928-771-3260
