A global partnership of water sector organizations—the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, the Water Environment Federation, the Water Environment and Reuse Foundation and the WateReuse Association—with input from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — has named Scottsdale Water as a recipient of the inaugural Utility of the Future (UOTF) Today Recognition Program. The program celebrates water and wastewater utilities that demonstrate exceptional performance and a commitment to advancing effective and sustainable practices that will help utilities across the sector.

Scottsdale Water earned the recognition by demonstrating its commitment to the UOTF concept of more efficient operations and a progression toward full resource recovery with enhanced productivity, sustainability and resiliency. Specifically, Scottsdale was recognized for fostering an “Organizational Culture of the Future” and for exceptional achievement in the areas of water reuse, energy efficiency and community partnering and engagement.

“It is a privilege to be among the inaugural class of utilities recognized for outstanding achievement as Utility of the Future Today organizations,” said Brian K. Biesemeyer, Scottsdale Water director and acting city manager. “The designation by our peers is an honor and represents our commitment to exemplifying the Scottsdale Water vision of Water Sustainability through Stewardship, Innovation and People.”

Scottsdale Water, along with other utilities form the U.S., Canada and Denmark, will be honored during a ceremony at WEFTEC 2016 – the Water Environment Foundation’s 89th annual technical exhibition and conference – in New Orleans, La. in September.

In announcing the Utility of the Future Today recipients, WEF Executive Director Eileen O’Neill stated: “Many utilities optimize their operations, consistently meet or exceed their regulatory requirements, and engage their employees and communities in meaningful and productive ways. We are excited about this new opportunity to recognize the achievements of small, medium and large forward-thinking utilities that are providing sustainable, efficient and value-added service to their communities.”
