The Roughriders defeat Mercer County Community College, 7-2.

Yavapai College (YC) defeated long-time traditional rival Mercer County Community College, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon in the second of two matches of group play in the 2017 National Championship Tournament. YC is now 23-2-3 on the year. The victory marks the 108th all-time post season victory for the Green and Gold and secures the 19th final four.

Yavapai and Mercer have met 10 previous times with 6 of those matches being played for the National Title. All previous meetings were played outside the state of Arizona.

YC advances to the National Semi-Final round with Wednesday’s victory. Yavapai will face the defending National Champions Tyler Junior College. Yavapai owns a 4-0-0 record against the Apaches facing them in 1991, 1995, 1996 and 2006. Tyler will be seeking their sixth national title and YC will be searching for their eighth crown.

Friday’s match will begin at 3:00 PM at Mountain Valley Park. 

Tickets are available at the gate - $10 for a day pass. You may bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

Yavapai College is the top NJCAA Men’s Division 1 Soccer Team since 1989. Team #2? Mercer.
