Bill's Newscast: Expect Rain Featured

Another round of storms is on the way.

Prescott Valley Event Center bankruptcy plan

The Prescott Valley Town Council meets at 5:30 tomorrow to consider participation in a bankruptcy plan for the Prescott Valley Event Center.  The Center operator had filed for bankruptcy in August 2015.  Since then, a reorganization plan has been developed and filed with the Bankruptcy Court on June 2nd. A hearing was held in Phoenix on July 12th.  The modified plan has again been filed and sent out to creditors and other interested parties for voting.   Under this plan, the obligations and duties under the 2005 development agreement will be cancelled.  A portion of the settlement agreement will also be cancelled to remove the obligation of the Fain family to continue operation of the Center.  Operations will be turned over to the Entertainment Center Community Facilities District based on an agreement with the Spectra Company.  The special Town Council meeting will be held in the Library Auditorium on Civic Circle.

Acker Park stormwater detention project

Good progress is being made on the Acker Park stormwater detention project.  The City of Prescott and Fann Contracting are working on this project in Acker Park near the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Senator Highway.  Work includes construction of a new detention basin, drainage culverts, channels and concrete spillways.  Installation of trees, shrubs and grasses is also included as part of the new basin.  This week crews are constructing the earthen berm and installing drain pipes.  As pipe installation moves forward, crews will begin pouring and forming concrete for the spillway.  Work hours are 7 am to 6 pm today through Saturday.  Once complete, the basin will detain water during large storm events, improve stormwater quality and control runoff in areas surrounding Acker Park.  Construction is scheduled to be completed later this summer.

The 2017-18 School Year is about to begin

Enrollment is underway for the upcoming school year in the Prescott Unified School District.  New students living in their attendance area will be given spots immediately.  New in-district but out of attendance area students registering now won’t be given placement until next Monday.  New out of District students won’t be placed until July 26th.  On-line registration can be done at prescottschools.com.  To complete registration at Prescott High School, call the Advisement Office at 445-2322 to schedule an appointment to meet with an Academic Advisor.  An advisor will be available for drop-in appointments from 8:30 am to 1 pm today through Friday.

Parents or guardians are asked to bring current immunization records, birth certificates and proof of Arizona residency.  As of Monday, all schools are open for registration.

It rained yesterday. It will rain today. 80% certainty.

The Prescott area got hit with rain yesterday, and another round of storms are on their way.  A weather disturbance coming in from New Mexico will be interacting with the moist air in the state to produce more thunderstorms.  Meteorologist Marvin Percha with the National Weather Service explains this system will cover just about all the state. Percha says heavy rainfall is likely. A flash flood watch is in effect until 8 tonight.  Yavapai County Emergency Management is urging residents and visitors to stay away from streams and other drainage channels during and after rainstorms.  Keep children away from floodwaters near culverts and storm drains and protect property with sandbags.  Drivers should never attempt to drive through water on a road.  Water can be deeper than it appears, and levels can rise very quickly.
