Right now, Christian is at Phoenix Children’s Hospital on life support and in a coma. But, the prognosis is not good, and the tragic medical decision has been made to remove life support tonight at 10 PM.
“He was a very good kid,” Eric Pearson, his dad said this evening.
On June 8, 2017, Christian was found when an emergency 911 call came in for the Chino Valley Police Department. The caller said a child was not breathing and was unresponsive.
When law enforcement officers arrived, they found a horrific scene. Christian had 2nd and 3rd degree burns on various parts of his body, and bruising to his back, torso, extremities, neck and head. According to the press release from Lt. Vince Schaan, "Evidence suggests these injuries were inflicted upon the child at the residence, while he was bound and restrained and unable to protect himself or flee. ”
Christian was transported to YRMC, and then flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital in extremely critical condition. He never came out of the coma.
When asked what he would want people to know about his son, Christian, Eric replied, “He was a very good kid. He got straight A’s, he was very smart in school. He liked to play sports, ride his bicycle. He played basketball every day. He was such a good boy.”
Eric lives in Tucson, and didn’t see Christian on a daily basis. “I was not aware of what was happening in his home up here,” Eric said. “They kept to themselves. I get him in the summer time and every other holiday.”
Eric has an older son from a previous marriage, Christian’s half-brother. “They spent time together last summer and played in the pool,” he said.
Christian also has a half-sister on his mother’s side. She is only about a year and a half old, and is in the care of Child Protective Services, according to Lt. Schaan.
Eric didn’t say much about Christian’s mother, Julianna Moreno, and her boyfriend, Daniel Terry both of whom are currently in jail, charged with multiple felonies, including attempted 1st degree murder, child abuse and assault.
“The system, I know, will do everything in their power to make sure they don’t get out,” Eric said.
According to Eric, an organ donation is planned, if possible, after Christian is removed from life support.
In the meantime, Eric had a simple message for the local community, “I thank you for your support. God bless everyone for their support.”
Editor’s note: A donation fund is being set up to help the family with expenses. We will provide the information when the details are known.
