Residents Evacuated Due to Fire in Black Canyon City Featured

A fire started at the auto salvage yard on Smitty Way is estimated to be at 15 acres.

Just after 11PM last night, a fire broke out in the ā€œC and Sā€ auto salvage yard on Smitty Way at Tara Springs Road in Black Canyon City. An earlier fire there was thought to be extinguished. Fire crews have been working throughout the night to contain the fire now estimated at 15 acres. Residents in the vicinity have been evacuated as a precaution. I do not have a number on evacuations.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Canon School located at 34360 So. School Loop Rd., Black Canyon, AZ 85324.

No further evacuations are expected at this time. The YCSO Jeep Posse has been assisting with evacuation notifications.

Fire agencies involved are from the Black Canyon City Fire Department along with Daisy Mountain, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, Glendale fire departments.

YCSO detectives are on scene to determine if arson was a factor.
