Glendale, Ariz. –Glendale Police Chief Debora Black has accepted the position of police chief for the city of Prescott, AZ. Her last day with Glendale will be Friday, July 15.
Debora Black joined the Glendale Police Department as assistant police chief in 2006. She served in that position until becoming the interim police chief in 2012 and was named the Glendale police chief in 2013.
Leaving the Glendale Police Department was a difficult decision for Chief Black. “Leading the department has truly been an honor for me and a highlight in my 36-year career in law enforcement,” said Chief Debora Black. “I am thankful for the privilege I have had to serve with the men and women of the Glendale Police Department on behalf of this community.”
“The city of Glendale is sad to lose Chief Black but we are happy for her and her family. ” said City Manager Kevin Phelps. “Chief Black has developed a strong leadership structure throughout the entire Police Department which will provide the officers and the public with the stability and continuity needed to continue to fulfill the mission of protecting the lives and property of the citizens they serve.”
Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps has appointed Assistant Police Chief Rick St. John to serve as interim police chief upon the departure of Chief Black. Assistant Chief St. John is a 19-year veteran of the Glendale Police Department and during hiscareer he has overseen or been involved with every major division of the department.
