PRELIMINARY INFORMATION – Today, at approximately 8:30 AM, two Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived near a home in the 100 block of Rincon Drive, Bagdad. Deputies had been asked by the father of 29-year-old Colt White, to counsel him regarding some behavioral issues. Additionally, White did not have permission to be at the home.

As the deputies arrived in an area across from the Rincon Drive home, several shots were heard coming from the home and directed towards their position. Deputies retrieved rifles from their vehicles as they sought cover. Deputies then ordered the suspect to exit the home unarmed. He complied within a few minutes and was taken into custody. For reasons unknown at this time, the suspect decided not to engage them further. No rounds were fired by deputies during the incident. It is estimated the suspect fired at least 4 rounds striking both patrol vehicles at least once.

Deputies learned the suspect had forced entry into the father’s bedroom to obtain the scope mounted hunting rifle he used to shoot at them.

Sheriff Mascher would like to express his appreciation for the actions of both deputies in a time of grave danger as their response to the ambush was immediate, focused, and likely a factor in the suspect’s surrender.

Further details will be provided when available.
