Deputies Rescue Wilhoit Man trapped under overturned Tractor
On April 25, 2012, at approximately 6:30 PM, two Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 7600 block of Derry Drive, Wilhoit, regarding a man trapped under his overturned tractor. A family member originally called YCSO dispatchers in a panic as they had been unable to lift the tractor off his body. They also thought he had lost conscious. Deputies arrived within 13 minutes by emergency response mode and found 68-year-old Freddie Parsons in a brushy area pinned underneath the overturned tractor. Parsons’ lower body was trapped by the seat and fenders of the tractor. Although now conscious, Parsons complained of extreme pain to his legs and hips.
While a Sgt. tended to the well-being of Parsons, an assisting deputy located a pry bar and was able to lift the tractor and gain enough height allowing the Sgt. to pull Parsons to safety. A crew from Life Line ambulance arrived soon after and began medical treatment. Parsons was stabilized and then airlifted to John C. Lincoln North hospital in Phoenix.
As of today, Parsons is recovering with no life threatening injuries. Deputies noted they are called to many emergencies throughout the year, and this was one of those incidents where a quick arrival time and team effort likely saved Parsons from further significant injury. The tractor was not equipped with rollover protection framing.
The YCSO patrol Sgt. injured his arm while assisting with the removal of Parsons and is receiving ongoing treatment as a result.
