Barry Goldwater, Jr. to Open Rural Community College Alliance 2014 National Conference Featured

Former US Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr. will deliver the opening address at the Rural Community College Alliance (RCCA) 2014 National Conference Thursday morning, which is taking place at the Prescott Resort and Conference Center.

Yavapai College is serving as the host college for this year's conference. RCCA is an advocacy organization for 600 rural and tribal community colleges across America.

“The Rural Community College Alliance is delighted to hold our annual conference in Prescott this year,” Dr. Drew A. Bennett, RCCA board chair, said. “The importance of this group is highlighted by the fact that six in 10 of the nation’s 1,552 community college campuses are rural, enrolling 3.7 million students, and they award over half of all associate degrees earned in our country. We want to thank the people from Yavapai College who are helping to host leaders from rural community colleges around the country as we converge in Prescott.”

“Hosting this event is another example of Yavapai College practicing what it preaches about economic development,” said Dr. Penny Wills, Yavapai College president. “We’re thrilled that we can bring new guests here to experience the college and this region. We’re encouraging conference attendees to stay over and see even more of the area.”

Friday morning at 8 AM, sessions will be highlighted by:

  • Lucy Johnson, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Rural Outreach
  • Mark Mitsue, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges
  • Dennis Bega, Director of Regional Operations

Some of the Workshop titles include:
